Track by Track: For Lack of a Term - Welcome To Your New Normal
Hailing from the budding music screen of Yonkers, NY, For Lack of a Term is an alternative punk rock four-piece known around town and beyond for their unique live sound and energetic performances. Today, we’re premiering a track by track for their new record. Check it out below!
Dirty Laundry - Dirty Laundry is a song about making the most of a second chance at a life with someone, against seemingly insurmountable odds. It’s the story of rebuilding a love from the ground up while immediately starting at a disadvantage in part due to the watchful and judgmental eyes of everyone else in your life. Most of all, it’s about an effort to let the past be the past, as well as letting the future be the future.
Forward - Forward is lyrically and thematically meta as it’s a song about how hard it was to write the song. It’s about overcoming the tremendous pressure of an impending deadline while being nowhere close to complete.
Good Day Cafe - Good Day Cafe is a love letter to touring as our runs and from the past few years are among some of the fondest and happiest days of our lives. The song is named after a wholesome mom and pop cafe, (of the same name), based in Myrtle Beach that was incredibly welcoming and accommodating during our time in South Carolina.
Always Something - Always something is a song about losing yourself in the pursuit of an unhealthy obsession. It’s about wanting something so desperately yet having it slip through your fingers time and time again.
Gravity Failing- Gravity Failing tells the story of a deeply flawed character and the heavy price paid that’s come with pushing everyone he’s cared about away.
Rock Bottom - Rock Bottom is the second half to “Gravity Failing”, and it continues the story of this character as we pick up with him actively trying to turn his life around. Unfortunately, even after having mended bridges, we find that he’s doomed to repeat the same mistakes as he inevitably reaches a new and much deeper, rock bottom.
Scrap Man - Scrap-Man tells a story of kindness having been taken advantage of for years. It’s about confronting those who would manipulate you and finally reaching a point where you’ve had enough.
Another Place, Another Time - Another Place, Another Time tells a story about coming to terms with losing a love. It’s about that temptation we often indulge, where we find ourselves replaying the memories over and over again, as we scour them in a vain attempt to find something we could’ve said or done differently.
Jawbreakers (Feat. Another Astronaut) - Jawbreakers is a reflection and tells a story of living a delinquent lifestyle. The song takes us back to when we were all young and dumb, and it seemed as if causing trouble and seeking thrills were the fuel to our existence. The conclusion of the song lyrically finds us dealing with the consequences that often come with living too recklessly.
Happy Hour (Album Version) - Happy Hour is a song about a fleeting summer love that went nowhere almost as quickly as it began. It’s about that sometimes unspoken rule between two people that feelings and thoughts of a future together are not allowed. It’s about having fun in the moment and enjoying the now. But what happens when one of us decides that isn’t enough and we start yearning for something more?
I’m Sorry, Did My Back Hurt Your Knife? -“ I’m Sorry, Did My Back Hurt Your Knife?”, tells the story of the death of a friendship. It’s about lending a hand to someone who’d been a close friend for over a decade, but through a series of circumstances, you now find yourself dealing with the fallout of their betrayal.
Something More Than Human - Something More than Human is a song about that feeling that we all have deep down that we’re meant to be more than what we currently are. It’s about overcoming obstacles reaching a new plateau and, more than anything, about believing in yourself.
