Track By Track: Faminehill - Ascend

Faminehill showcase the best of metalcore; searing melodic injections, riveting instrumentals and epic breakdowns, displaying an unequivocally accomplished delivery of their expansive and atmospheric sound, with pinpoint vocals on both clean and scream. Their debut album, Ascend came out April 5th and we asked the band to tell us about each track. Check out their commentary on the album below.

Ascend:

“Ascend” is the title track of the album. The lyrics refer to overcome different feelings which makes our everyday life harder. In this case it is mostly about mental illnesses. We found that this could be the title track because it represents the main message of the album. The song is about trying to point out that we all suffer from the same things in different ways and we can also find a way to break them.

Rotten Hearts:

Rotten Hearts is about hurting someone you love and thinking that the mistakes that you've done are not forgivable. It's from a point of view of a man who's giving up on himself, and who thinks there's nothing he deserves but pain and suffering, and even if there is forgiveness, he just doesn't want to bring anyone down with himself so being alone is the best for him.

Burden:

This song is about heartache that comes with an end of a relationship that you can hardly overcome. It got the title “Burden” because most cases when you love someone you feel kind of a guilt that you carry yourself with for a long time. The lyrics is about how one tries to change another but neither of them are devoted enough.

Jaded:

Sometimes we tend to “live” in our past lives, evoking up the good times and memories while we are suffering from present occasions. It is good to bring up these things but not in a way that some people do. If we do it too often we can forget about all the possibilities in the present as we are “living” in our past memories. “Jaded” is about dealing with this problem like we feel comfort in our weakness because we rely on our past and somehow accepting everything that brings us down despite the fact that we could make a change.

Ruin:

This track is about losing someone close to you. As we try to overcome grief, anger is one of the many stages of a long and painful process. It is all about dealing with injustice, when a good person passes away too soon and you cannot overcome the fact, especially when people who deserve half the kindness of this world are still thriving, living an easy life, and the ones we hold dearest aren’t here with us anymore.

 Everlasting:

The track “Everlasting” is about a deep, shallow mental state where you think you cannot get out of in any way. There is a phase I think in everyone’s life where we find comfort in our failures, being alone and somehow finding solace in suffering. “I’m dying to hear your voice” refers to that we tend to sit in silence and wait for someone to notice that we are striving for help but showing no emotion about our suffering.

Grave:

Due to our mistakes and problems, we have a tend to get depressed or to make them larger than they actually are. We don’t care about the positive energies, happenings, feelings. For some reason we make higher prior for our distress, problems we suffer from the lack of the self-confidence and low self-esteem. The lyrics is about not letting the negative vibes, in most cases created by ourselves, to overcome us; and to believe, that we mean more to others than we usually think.

Torn:

This track is about being fed up with something/someone that tries to step into your way as you are striving to achieve something that you have always wanted. The lyrics are not about a specific occasion, it can be identified however as the listener would like to. “Torn” is about realising the fact that no matter how others blame you or trying to take away your happiness or what so ever, you have to keep pushing and fight for your purpose.

Illusion:

This is the final track of the album. “Illusion” is about the lowest point of someone’s life where you do not seem to carry on in any way and you are not seeking for any kind of help neither. It is like waking up every day with a heavy pressure in your chest that makes you want to end it all. It can be strange that the first track “Ascend” is about overcoming any obstacle and the final track “Illusion” is about losing it all without hope but the reason behind it is that our emotional health is like a rollercoaster. Some days you feel like you could conquer the world and other days leaving your bedroom seems to be the most difficult thing ever.
