Track by Track: Dizasterpiece - ZZONEBOUND [QRX4-Notion]

Dizasterpiece is best described as a hybrid of post-hardcore and alternative-fused metalcore, East Coast Rapcore group Dizasterpiece released a new album entitled “ZZONEBOUND [QRX4-Notion]”

As a mixture of metal and screamo influences, combined with trippy alt-rock and hip-hop, Dizasterpiece is unlike anything you’ve heard before and showcases its dynamic range in eight potent tracks.

In anticipation of the album, Dizasterpiece released a few tracks from the album, including the title track “ZZONEBOUND [QRX4-Notion]”, and “Nosferatu” via Shake The Earth Records and Innergy Records.

We want to show audiences that there still is a way to reach the masses with out-of-the-norm music, rather than just jumping on whatever is trending. We want to exemplify that there doesn’t need to be many rules with genre-blending, nor rules about what is categorized as what, and how you’re supposed to look, act, or dress. We want to exemplify that people still DO care about lyrics.” -Diz, vocals, guitar, and sound samples.

The first track off of the album, “MORE”, bridges the nu sound with the original style. It starts off with Beastie Boys influenced vocals over a New York Hip-Hop style beat right before quickly breaking into a catchy post-hardcore chorus which debuts the first bit of the new sound.

Next up, “ZZONEBOUND”, the title track from the record, starts as a catchy, chill, trip-hop-influenced, and then transforms into post-hardcore, metal and screamo-rock, showcasing the best of both worlds from Dizasterpiece, and the wide range in genre they are capable of.

KING OF THE REALM”, the next track on the record, tunes into the group’s emo influence, encapsulating a sound of early 2000s groups such as Taking Back Sunday, Armor For Sleep, and The Used. With a distinctive vocal performance from Diz, and nostalgic guitar riffs, this song sounds like it is paying homage to the influential New Jersey bands that were on Drive-Thru and Victory Records like Thursday & Senses Fail.

NOSFERATU” tunes into the group’s melodic shoegaze/alternative rock/nu-metal side, with slamming dropped-tuned guitars, and hard-hitting vocals. Lyrics like “No I won’t bend. Black hole of a room with bad souls again. Fiending off my energy, and my energy is my currency therefore making them my enemies. My magic gets tainted even if I came powerful (damaging my stamina.)

And the second I disconnected, I got showers full of blessings. Always trust your gut” showcasing the songwriting talent of the group, while genius instrumentation and mixing showcase the talent of producers like long-time collaborator “illgorythmz”.

BROTHERS IN ARMS” is a catchy, infectious beat, The first line, “LARGE DARK CLOUD; Hovering, smothering, I’m wondering when the F*ck the sun gonna come back out. Bowed my head in seasons of optimism reasoning, but now the grievances are creeping out”, cuts deep as if touches on the dark aftermath of Covid-19 and having your friends & loved ones back during tough times. This track mixes New School with Old school with tinges of Death Grips & Ghost Mane with its mysterious, hard-hitting instrumental backing and fast-paced, poetic vocals and unique rhythmic flow.

Up next, “FREQUENCY” is a collab with New Jersey band, Of The Light. There is a positive message in the lyrics about creating your own reality via channeling the right vibrations and letting go of what no longer serves your true purpose.

MANIFEST” tunes into the group’s Hip-Hop influences & OG sound with a unique backing vocal sample that stays in your brain the moment the song ends. With lyrics like “Now follow me, come and chase your dreams, cause nothing is ever what it seems… Don’t stop till you get the outcome that you want,” the group speaks to the power of manifesting your dreams into reality.

We want to move people in a way that empowers them and inspires them to create their own project, band, art, or destiny. We want to re-enforce the concept of confidence and self-belief in our listeners or just anyone in general.- Levi Parkas, bass player for Dizasterpiece

AND CINDERELLA WILL DETONATE THE WHOLE METAVERSE”, the closing track on the record, is by far the heaviest song and goes borderline grindcore/death metal. With punishing guitar riffs one after the other and violent mosh parts, this song hints at what is forecoming.

Dizasterpiece binds the best of hip-hop with elements of hard rock, punk, and New York hardcore, and strives to create original music full of passion and true craftsmanship. Their style is truly remarkable, as they combine perhaps the widest range of influences imaginable, and somehow can showcase each of these influences within only eight tracks in their newest work.
