What’s Next ?
The way What’s Next was written differed from my “usual” writing process. Before this song and this EP, what really mattered to me was the sound and melodies. With What’s Next I tried to really say things that were crucial to me. This song underlines contradictory actions and events that we can experience daily. What was hard in those lyrics for me was to not take a side or give my opinions on the events I was describing.
I just wanted to bring people to take the time to think about what was around them and what might be great to change for a better future. Zoé Pelloux (Producer), Caio Slikta (Fine Artist) and I are actually working on the music video for this song.
Creature of Your Nights
Creature of The Nights was actually written around five or six years ago. The lyrics changed multiple times since I started writing this song while I was still in the situation it describes. It just talks about two people who sleep together just for fun but who could become more and at the end won’t. It talks about how feelings can interfere in this kind of relationship and how fast this one can change depending of both sides wishes. Basically it underlines the fact that you can’t always want the same then the person in front of you.
Leave It
Leave It was the hardest song of this EP to write for me. Most of the time when I compose, I start by just playing on my guitar or my keyboard until I figure out a catchy melody. Then I start to mess around with vocal lines until I got a good melody. In the process I usually end singing words that show me what the song is about. But for this one, words were always changing and it took me months to understand what I wanted to talk about. When the topic of this song finally get clear I wrote the lyrics in one afternoon. Since this song is talking about clichés and intolerance, I just wrote down sentences that people told me at some point in my life.
Using the dialog process on this song was for me the best way to expose what can happen everyday when intolerance show up. To be honest with you I am not a big fan of the chorus and it might change for the live performances. The idea of saying “well, if I love what I am I don’t care what you are thinking” will stay, but I think I can find a better way to express it. That is what I like about songs: it is not because you recorded already that it can’t change anymore. A song needs to always evolve.
Someday
Like Creature of Your Nights, Someday was written few years ago. I first thought I was writing this song about someone I know, but I realized not long ago that it was about me and about what I needed to do to be happy and in phase with myself. This song questions what really matters and what is the best way to succeed in your life and carrier. Should you go for what brings success today and follow the trend, or should you stick to your tastes and to who you are?
Is it better to succeed in your job really fast but for a short amount of time because it would be just superficial, or is it better to take the time to build who you are and your team to maybe find success step by step? There is no right answer to this question. It depends on who you are. This song helped me to figure out what I needed and how I wanted to live my life and approach my carrier.
