The Heavy Sounds of Summer
If you are like me the summer leads up to two of the biggest tours hitting America, Vans Warped Tour, and Summer Slaughter, if you want to see some heavy bands. There have been so many album releases from the bands going out on the road this year, I wanted to shed some light or even refresh your ears to get ready for concert season.
One of the first albums to drop this year was Slaughter to Prevail's Misery Sermon. This album kicks off with the titled track 'Misery Sermon' where vocalist Alex Terrible wastes no time bringing the aggression. Other stand out tracks are 'King' and 'Russian Hate' both bringing a fury of grinding guitars and blasting drums to the table. This year will be Slaughter to Prevails second appearance on the Summer Slaughter Tour.
Another album that was dropped early in the year was Lorna Shore's Flesh Coffin. These metal masters have been churning out albums since 2010. They take a blend of black metal and deathcore to bring their own spin of heaviness. Stand out tracks on this album are, ' FVNERAL MOON' and 'Denounce The Light.' This year will be the first appearance of Lorna Shore on Summer Slaughter.
After several lineup changes, Oceano is back and better than ever with their latest release Revelation. This album is 10 tracks of in your face nastiness. Adam Warren's vocals are as deep and haunting as ever, so in your face it demands your attention for every second. I recommend checking out the tracks ' Lucid Reality' and 'Human Harvest.' Oceano can be seen on this years Summer Slaughter Tour.
Emmure is back with a completely new line up, and looking to take names. Fronted by vocalist Frankie Palmeri, the band enlisted into its ranks guitarist Josh Travis (Glass Cloud, Tony Danza Tapdance Extraveganza), drummer Josh Miller ( Glass Cloud) and bassist Phil Lockett (Glass Cloud) to write this new album, Look at Yourself. Two of Look At Yourself's lead off singles are 'Russian Hotel Aftermath' and ' Flag of the Beast.' You can see Emmure tearing up the stage on this years Van's Warped Tour.
One of the freshest releases on this list is The Acacia Strain's Gravebloom, having been released on 6/30/17. The Acacia Strain have been known to be the prophets of doom, churning out slow tempo tunes that just beat their listeners down with low tuned guitars, and pounding double bass drums. Two stand out tracks that are a must listen are, 'Plague Doctor' and ' Bitter Pill.' The Acacia Strain can be see on this years Van's Warped Tour.
Rounding out my recommendations is Dying Fetus's Wrong One to Fuck With. This album is a monster, with blazing fast guitars and syncopated drums that just grind your face off. Wrong One is just as aggressive as you can get with tracks like ' Seething in Disdain', and 'Panic Amongst the Herd,' it's hard not to want to bang your head. These death metal giants can be seen co-headlining this years Summer Slaughter Tour.
There are so many good aggressive bands getting a chance at the spotlight this year, make sure to go out and support them!
