Your band is bad and you should feel bad.

Too many local bands are putting out the same unoriginal sounding garbage nowadays. They spend too much time messaging people on Facebook to check out their band. You should spend that time writing and practicing the material your band wrote, you'll end up better in the long run. Don't start a band unless it's gonna be all in; Maynard from Tool gives some great advice about that in an interview he did with Marc Maron. All my favorite local bands I discovered after seeing them opening for national touring acts.

Thomas Williams from Stray From The Path said it best (albeit, it was in reaction to this)

Don't get a manager, tour manager, roadie, tech or whatever. If you can't afford one, your manager isn't doing their job. They should be bringing in money, not taking it away. If they are taking it away, they don't fucking care. Band is only selling $300 a night on merch? Don't print on American apparel. Sure that is nice, but if you aren't selling merch, then cut your costs. It's not like Gildan is poison.

32% merch rate? Usually 25%? If you are playing shows with that high of a merch rate, you should fire your booking agent. Do most of the work yourself, and focus on writing good quality music. If you are putting the quality of your t-shirts as a priority, then your priorities are not in order. It's like a restaurant, if your food is good, people will want to keep eating it

Also, don't do anything on this list and you'll do just fine as a band in your local scene.
