2017 has been quite a year for Lorna Shore. From dropping their latest full length album Flesh Coffin early in the year. To starting the year off touring with Carnifex, Rings of Saturn and She Must Burn, to now playing The Summer Slaughter Tour. The band has been decimating crowds all over the United States with their blend of death metal. I got to talk with vocalist Tom Barber on what is next for the band as Summer Slaughter wraps for the year.
GA: To my knowledge this is Lorna Shore’s first appearance on Summer Slaughter, how has the band been enjoying the tour?
TB: It’s been awesome. All the bands have been really nice to us. There hasn’t been any negative tension on this tour, everyone has been nice. The crowds have been sick too. You couldn’t ask to be a part of something sicker than this.
GA: Your latest album Flesh Coffin has been making waves, I for one am a big fan, how has the reaction been like with the crowds?
TB: A lot of the crowds have consisted of newer fans that are still processing what is going on. Then, we also have the handful of kids that know us, and they wig out. It has been very cool, it is cool to see anyone bob their head. It is more than anything I can ask for, and the circle pits were awesome.
GA: Being on a tour like Summer Slaughter, what are some tour essentials for you, a must have on the road outside of the illustrious baby wipes which every band holds dear?
TB: Toothpaste, baby wipes… you really need baby wipes, hand sanitizer, extra pairs of socks (because your feet sweat a lot), a dope ass blanket, and money.
GA: What has to be the sickest thing you experienced on this tour?
TB: Oh my god there has been a couple crazy things happen on this tour. I won’t say who, but there was a crazy orgy, with like eight dudes and one chick. It was crazy. Just from being on the outside perspective, it’s like “woah, holy fuck, that’s happening like right there!” It’s pretty nuts. It was pretty insane, I’m not going to lie to you.
GA: What is next for Lorna Shore?
TB: We have a tour coming up with Miss May I, Ice Nine Kills, and this band called Capsize. We will be home for 9 days after, and then go out with them. Then we will have a month off, then go to Europe in November with Emmure, Deez Nutz, Chelsea Grin, Kublai Khan, Sworn In, and Polaris.
GA: Any places or things that are on your wish list to accomplish?
TB: I have a lot. I want to own a dispensary someday. I’d like to have my own interviewing channel with video.
GA: Like a podcast maybe?
TB: I have some things in the back of my mind, that I really don’t want to put out there just yet. I do have some cool ideas. I would like to also have a clothing line.
GA: What about places to play?
TB: I would really like to play in Russia, I want to see how crazy those people are.
GA: Being this is the last day of tour, what does the last day of tour mean to you?
TB: It’s kind of a bummer, because I made a couple good friends on this tour, more than just acquaintances. There are people that are just on tour, and then there’s people that you become really good friends with, and want to see again. I am also really excited to go home, and play some video games. Also, to smoke a lot of fucking weed; and not to have to look over my shoulder, and wonder who is going to get me in trouble, or some crazy shit.
GA: To wrap things up, anything else you would like to add?
TB: We have some announcements that will happen near the end of December, so be on the lookout. Keep supporting us, keep giving us love and we are going to keep playing shows, and putting out kick ass music for all of you.
I want to thank Tom Barber of Lorna Shore for speaking with me for a few moments, it is always a pleasure. I wish you and the band luck while out on tour with Miss May I, and in your travels throughout Europe with Emmure. Make sure to check out Lorna Shore’s latest release Flesh Coffin, or check them out on tour.
