Show Review: Parks and Devastation Tour (Charlotte, NC)

Charlotte has a great setup for their music venues. I drove up there from Columbia, SC for the Parks and Devastation tour featuring A Day to Remember, Bring Me The Horizon, Motionless in White, and Chiodos.  he venue itself, Uptown Amphitheater, is adjacent to The Fillmore, which is used a green room when shows are at the amphitheater.

First up was Chiodos who always put on a good show. Their bassist and drummer recently left and had been replaced by members of MxPX and The Mars Volta. Of course, Thomas Erak from the Fall of Troy is in the band as well. Currently a supergroup if I've ever seen one. They opened their set with Undertaker, which is ironic since it's a closing track on Bone Palace Ballet. The rest of the set include songs from their latest album, Devil, and a few from All's Well That Ends Well.

Motionless In White made their way on stage afterwards. Never cared for this band until recently when I went back and listened to Infamous. I haven't listened to Reincarnate yet but the songs they played from it sounded a bit like Marilyn Manson.
There was a full moon during the show which seemed fitting for them.

The last time I saw Bring Me The Horizon with A Day to Remember was when I saw the latter for the first time. Jeremy McKinnon said they always like to bring headliners to open for them to make the show a better experience. Everything about BMTH's set seemed perfect except for Oli's mic which wasn't working too well for him. I'm still amazed they played a song from Suicide Season but I guess you gotta please your core fanbase happy.

A Day to Remember always has the best stage production for their tours. The House Party Tour being their best in my opinion. For this tour, the band had a miniature Mt Rushmore with their faces carved in place of the presidents for the back drop. I had missed them on their aforementioned tour so this was my first seeing them playing more than two songs from Common Courtesy. The theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey played over the PA before the band came out and set off the place with The Downfall of Us All. Unfortunately, the pit area was small so Jeremy Mckinnon couldn't do his run in the hamster ball during Homesick. Despite doing close to 20 songs, Jeremy never sounded outta breath or hoarse. This was definitely one of the better fall tour packages I've seen. I'll be anxious to see what the band comes up with for their next headliner.
