Show Review: Fall Out Boy MANIA “Release” Show (Chicago, IL)

Credit to owner.

Dubbed the “MANIA Record Release Show”, formally, the one off show at the House Of Blues in Chicago, IL still went on as planned. After snagging a last minute ticket to the show out show and navigating the massive line,I was on my way to catching the show. After getting in the doors (finally) and making my way into the actual venue, I was granted with the beauty of the House Of Blues. Numerous colors bounced around the venue, but the color purple was the prevalent color of the night. Once 8:00 pm rolled around anyone and everyone’s nerves were kicked into high gears as the anticipation for the show grew higher. Quickly the house lights dimmed and the night began.

With no opener for the night Fall Out Boy had a 22 song night all together. Kicking off the night with ‘Irresistible’ and ending with the classic ’Saturday’ the set list I will admit was a little predictable. Though, that didn't stop them from throwing a one off or a new track into the mix. The show itself, now that was a spectacular event. The energy and crowd interaction was through the roof and then some. From the second the band took the stage with a grand entrance, attendees were responsive. The energy between the crowd and band only grew with every song and the band loosened up too. A notable aspect of the night was actually when vocalist Patrick Stump directed the crowd to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to his mother. The cute moment only lasted a hot minute, but the best part was to see the other parents in the balcony supporting their sons. As the night rolled on the show didn't stray from any typical show, but the band worked hard to allow this show to have own flare.

The climax of the night was when the band brought a piano to the stage and began the live debut of their newest single ‘Last Of The Real Ones’. This is the first time the band has ever played the song live, they did an extraordinary job of the live version similar to the record version. If there is one thing I could take away from this live performance it is, the new era of Fall Out Boy may be rocky. But if anyone can pull it off, they can. All in all, Fall Out Boy’s performance in Chicago was one to remember.
