Review: Ten Two - Forth
Freshly released and available on multiple platforms, Florida alt-rocker Ten Two released his debut album “Forth”. The brainchild and solo project of Still The Sky’s Limit frontman Johnny B, Ten Two’s twist on alternative rock surely makes for an interesting listen.
Kicking off the album with track “Windows”, you're instantly welcomed with the Johnny B’s vocal ability as the speed of the album is set. The upbeat tempo is offset by the airy vocals, giving listeners an eerie feeling. With a rock transition from first track into second, the song “Whispers” instantly brings a bright and catchy sound. Moving into the third and fourth tracks “Barricades” and “Raise Your Hand” bring forth catchy and soothing music, while it’s the lyrics that stick out and make an impact. Lyrics like “Did you expect to get away with it? Don’t hold your breath” and “I should have seen, the lies behind your teeth” make for an easier connection between musician and listener given the more emotional meaning of these words. Track “Checkmate”, which is a personal favorite, emphasizes the vocals all while giving the backline a chance to shine as the true harmony of the record jumps out through the speakers. Keeping the light and airy sound with track “Barbados” the record momentarily flows together. At this point in the record, a slight pattern has begun to develop and continues on with the next song “Some Know I Passed”. “Square One” and “Behold” morph into one and another, making a bit of a repetitive sound upon the first listen. Though that’s not all bad, the upbeat acoustic sounds are very kind on the ears. Ending the record with track Fin (Outro), the 38 second piano filled song ends the record on a delicate note, kind of wrapping everything up in a simple manner.
All in all, the album stands well on its own. From a personal standpoint, the album did lack some direction when it came to the sound, giving the record some rock parts. Though the rocky parts, for a first release, Ten Two’s “Forth” shows the musical ability and stamina needed in this day and age. With all that being said, “Forth” is available to jam out to on numerous platforms! For fans of Famous Last Words, Taking Back Sunday, and Set It Off.
