Review: Mikal Cronin - MCIII
Mikal Cronin just released his third studio album, MCIII. This album released on May 4th, 2015 under Merge Records. Mikal is one talented individual... He played every instrument in the album and he also collaborated with many artists, such as Ty Segall! Alright lets get this review started!
Mikal Cronin makes very catchy alternative pop music and this album is perfect to get stuck in your head. This album reminds me of the shins but a fresh new take. He adds the garage rock style seamlessly with poppy melodies. This album is well done and has great gems in it, such as symphonies of sound. The guitar solo's are really impressive, it's gives a much needed rock and roll effect to the songs.
ii) Gold is one of my favorite tracks on this album. It's his more garage rock style with fuzzy guitars with lovely feedback. I think his lo-fi work are his best, but I like how the production is in this album. Throughout this song it changes into an odd jam session with a sitar. It adds a very unique sound to the album.
This album is great breakground music, and get for playing on a nice sunny day. The alternative scene is changing and I like how Mikal Cronin brings back the roots. If you enjoy The Shins, I recommend this band! He also has other bands he is apart of so check them out! I rate this album a 7 out of 10. This album started of great but I don't think he gave it his all. I enjoy his upbeat songs and this album has a lot more slow songs.
