Review: In Hearts Wake - Skydancer
In Hearts Wake, the Australian metalcore band, has released a third album entitled Skydancer. This album came as a sort of surprise for fans in March 2015 with them saying a new album would be released May 2015. Let's take a look at this album and see what it has to offer.
When I first turned on this album I was greeted with the song "Aether". This song only has a single guitar and an over-lying static sounding background. The track sets the mood of the album to be very relaxing minute introduction. It jumps straight into the next track "Skydancer" that features Jonathan Vigil. The song is very solid, combining both vocalists and blending into the amazing instrumentals.
Skipping later into the album, there is a particular song that catches you off guard. The 7th track "Wildfire" is very soft compared to the rest of the album. After listening to the other heavy tracks, this was a nice break. My personal favorite "Erase" features Ben Marvin and J Hurley of Hackvist. This song shows off how dynamic In Hearts Wake are with mixing djent and vocals The album ends with the song "Father". It's a very ambient track with a voice talking over chill music and ends with instrumentals of just drums and a light guitar.
This album is definitely a game-changer for metalcore and djent alike. It goes out to show that not all metalcore has to sound the same and can be atmospheric. I'm going to give this album a 8 out of 10 stars, because of how well made the album is. I highly recommend giving this album a listen if you want to add another album to your top ten of the year.
