Review: Gallows - Desolation Sounds
Gallows is a hardcore punk band from England. Gallows fourth full length "Desolation Sounds" has been in the works since the release of their third in 2012. Was it worth the wait? Let's take a look at album and see.
This album is full of harsh-sounding, angsty lyrics and seems more generic than their last usual releases. Gallows have left their punk sounds in order to move into the straight rock scene. Although, unlike usual rock, there are no clean lyrics. It makes it a little bit more interesting to listen to on this album. The song "Mystic Death" reminds me of Stray From The Path in the way of breakdowns and vocals.
Most of the the songs sound exactly the same. I could barely tell the difference between the 10 songs. It's sad to see Gallows getting more "generic rock" like and less of the typical punk-rock roots they had before.
Hopefully in the future Gallows will go back to their roots. This album is a definite downgrade from their past works and that's why I'm giving this album a 6 out of 10 stars. I'm glad to see them go in a new direction, but they definitely need to step it up. I'd recommend this to fans of Godsmack and Every Time I Die.
