Review: Bane - Don't Wait Up
Bane, a side project of Aaron Bedard formerly of Converge. This all started as a side project, but when Aaron asked to leave Converge to make Bane a full time band, it got real. Bane is back with their fourth and final album titled, Don't Wait Up. They didn't fail to deliver.
Immediately Bane shows you they're going to go out on fire with the second track, "All the Way Through". Bane shows you its pumped up hardcore side mixed with some metal-core guitar licks transfused and blended together to make a track that makes you want to go to their final shows. Right before the track ends Bane gives us a few strong power chords and the ends abruptly, leaving any listener begging for more.
The next track, "Calling Hours" features David Wood of Down to Nothing, Pat Flynn of Have Heart, Walter Delgado of Rotting Out, and Rebecca Meyers of Code Orange Kids. This song is smooth, soft, and melodic during the intro but the tempo changes and more instruments join in and add to the atmosphere. This song is very touching, obviously about someone dying and not thinking about your life's end until it's right in front of your face. Bane and the guest vocalists really grip you and pull you into their emotional hurricane.
Notable track, "Hard to Find" is filled with touching lyrics anyone can relate to, about friends and who you can count on. Although, not the most heavy track on the album it still provides a significant beat. The beat feels dark as to add feeling of stress to relate to the lyrics of this track.
"Wrong Planet" is a very fun track that feels like a hardcore power ballad. We have a lot of clean guitars but every so often we get distorted tuned down riffs, somewhere behind that continual two beat harmonic.
Bane means a great cause of distress of annoyance if you were to look it up in the dictionary. If you want the exact opposite of that listen to Bane's final record, titled Don't Wait Up. bane will be missed.
