Currently comprised of two members, Angels and Airwaves have revolutionized their independent sound with The Dream Walker. You never know exactly what to expect from these guys – their style is experimental, to say the least. Laced with ambient vibes, their newest record serves as a crossroad between alternative and post-rock.

The duo has put a new twist on their technique while drawing from previous concepts, such as the spacey aura of Love and the angst-driven I-Empire. Just about each track has a catchy melody; however, many of the memorable hooks are drowned out by overwhelming synth work. While the synth itself plays a large role in the band’s experiential nature, it can overpower the purpose and musicality that drives the album. On the other hand, tracks like “Tremors” and “Bullets in the Wind” add a refreshing touch, propelled by lighthearted choruses and defined instrumental foundations. The closing acoustic track, “Anomaly,” captures the emotion behind the entire record.

Despite its few faults, The Dream Walker has set a distinct path for Angels and Airwaves through its fusion of newer and older work. This album is certainly nothing to overlook.
