Premiere: Lonely Ghost Records - Halloween 2: The Universe and You (Split)

Lonely Ghost Records has a new split in time for Halloween that does a great job showcasing what the label is all about. From the immediately visceral scuzzy punk of Meat Jelly, to the lush psychedelic soundscapes of Superdestroyer, and the intensely hooky emo-grunge stylings of Funeral Homes, this is genre-less DIY; these artists care more about how it was made than what type of genre you decide to call it. The label is already calling comparisons to the 80's underground DIY punk ethos (substance over style, ala SST/Touch and Go) keep an eye out for Lonely Ghost Records going forward.

I decided it would be cool if we could create a little Halloween tradition where we put out a split featuring a third artist or band. And so, that's how we got Halloween 2. "The Universe and You" part just came from the sort of experimental oscillation between heavy and soft instrumental and vocal styles that accompanied lyrics on a lot of heavy topics and introspection. It reminded me of what it felt like to look forward to Halloween for a month only to have it turn out as a bust--just sort of sitting on a curb in the cold night gazing at stars at 2 am on November 1st.” - LGR
