Periphery released a dual album on January 27th, which are titled “Juggernaut: Alpha” and Juggernaut: Omega”.

The djent-flavored rock band has brought a bit of a surprise to the table, which is immediately noticeable. The first thing one will notice is that we aren’t immediately greeted with a hard-hitting, rhythmically dynamic, chug pattern. Instead, we are met with a softer more complex arrangement of music, along with some fantastic singing vocals. Let me stop right there to say this; This is by no means a bad thing.

I actually had to double check computer to make sure I had hit play on the right album. This is very unlike Periphery, but in such a good way. While old fans still get their djent-fix throughout the album, we can definitely tell that the band focused more on the bigger picture of the entire composition of both album. The artistry and pure musicianship is simply impressive.  

As I’m sure you’ve learned from my past reviews, I also pay attention to production quality. And Periphery’s team of wizards did not disappoint me either. They blended the sounds so nicely and didn’t leave such a computer-generated feel as before. Bravo.

The Maryland natives did well on this double album release. They really broke the mold that the current genre has formed. I look for many bands to follow their lead and start to release their growing musicianship.

9/10 for creativity, musicianship, and flat out hard work for the boys in Periphery.
