Livestream Review: Slipknot (Knotfest | Los Angeles, CA)

Slipknot’s biggest show ever took place at Knotfest LA. Read our review of the livestream below! All photos courtesy of Steve Thrasher/Kevin Garcia.

Cherry Bombs

After sitting through the intro with the annoying livestream hosts, Cherry Bombs promptly took the stage. Honestly, I’m only familiar with them because Corey Taylor is married to the lead dancer, Alicia. According to Icon vs Icon: their show is rock 'n' roll cabaret featuring talented dancers, top-notch aerialists, amazing fire artists, and other cirque acts.

For whatever reason, the troup continued to play in the background while the hosts babbled on about random bullshit. Kinda defeats the purpose of watching this livestream. Reminded of those annoying drunk people who don’t know how to use their inside voice while the band is playing in front of them. Jose Mangin would’ve been a better choice but I digress.

The commercials for Liquid Death may be the most cringing inducing thing ever.

Vended

People love to write off this group since two sons of Slipknot members are in this band. Griffin Taylor (vocals) and Simon Crahan (drums). Naturally, the son will sound like his father; the vocal similarities are there but he’ll find his own voice. It’ll be easier to judge their musicality once their new EP arrives on November 11th. Their setlist consisted of current singles and unreleased material.

Code Orange

They wasted no time starting their set, launching straight into “Swallowing The Rabbit Whole” and waking up the crowd. We recommend checking out their official livestreams with longer setlists and better audio.

Fever 333

Skipped their set cause I don’t care for them.

Killswitch Engage

The band killed it for the short time they were on the stream. Thankfully, the fans in attendance had a better experience.

Slipknot

Similar to Avenged Sevenfold, there was an AC/DC song played over the speakers before the curtain dropped to “Insert Coin/Unsainted” from the band’s excellent 2019 record, We Are Not Your Kind. They wasted no time kicking up the gear launching straight into Disasterpiece. Corey Taylor’s vocals sounded on point surprisingly for only taking a three day break between the end of the tour. It’s certainly better than his vocals for The Gray Chapter/Day of the Gusano album cycle! After taking.a break to address the audience/livestream, the visuals for Nero Forte light up the band’s lighting production.

It would be nice if the keg samples were better live. Barely audible in some (Before I Forget, The Heretic Anthem) while very much upfront in other songs (Spit It Out, Unsainted, Psychosocial, Wait and Bleed). Oddly enough, they waited till later in the set to debut the new song, The Chapeltown Rag. Fun fact: Bassist Vman (aka Alessandro Venturella) replied to a friend on Instagram saying he wrote the song. The band sounded like a well oiled machine and their live production matched that. Shout out to their tour crew! People=Shit was a nice start to the encore. (sic) and Surfacing ended the stream. Well worth having to deal with the insufferable hosts.
