Interview - Red Sun Rising

You're about to embark on tour with 3 Doors Down in a few weeks here, what are you most looking forward to on this tour and how is it a little bit different than some of your tours prior?

We’re looking forward to touring on a 3rd single. Every single brings new excitement to the set as more and more people sing it back. We are always working on our set and changing it to keep it fresh. This is always keeping each tour an upgrade for us.

We’re also very much looking forward to learning how a band like 3 Doors Down operates. We love taking notes from bands that have been able to sustain themselves in the business for as long as they have. Always something to learn.

Furthermore, you'll be heading to Europe for a great deal of time this coming fall. It's a long haul overseas, what is on your playlist for the flight?

I usually listen to pretty calm music and I think my playlist might surprise some. I love female vocalists. It's obvious I'm an Alanis Morrissette fan given that we do the cover of Uninvited, however I have been listening to a lot of Regina Spektor lately. Other than that I always have my go-to's like A Perfect Circle, Tool, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains.

#WeAreThread can be found all over your social media, what does this mean to the band?

It's a lifestyle and an anti-genre, genre. It's the embracement of all art and not just music. Making our music an experience for the listener by putting thought into our lyrics and creating a musical landscape that can be enjoyed time and time again without becoming stale. It's also a way of saying we aren't just a rock band or just a alternative band. We just want to write music we love and not for a genre. This is what thread is all about. Threading together influences and elements that are specific to us.

You guys have made some history recently, having two back-to-back, number one hit singles on the Billboard rock charts. This is the first time in over ten years that a band has done that, how does that feel?

It's surreal. We always had confidence in our music but when something this great happens all your hard work is justified. It's also fuel to the fire and makes us work harder to become greater each step of the way.

Polyester Zeal came out a year ago now, how does it feel arriving upon the anniversary? Is there new music in the works after Europe?

Always new music. We are always writing. And that's simply because we love creating music. We've been playing these songs for yes a while now therefore writing new music makes us excited and eager to record it and perform it. New music drives everything. That being said we couldn't be more proud of what Polyester Zeal has done for us.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Come see us live. Come dance and sing with us. Also if you see us say hello. We take our art seriously but not ourselves
