Interview: Oh The Humanity

Hailing from Tampa, Florida musician Erik Ross of Oh The Humanity took a few moments to speak with us. Discussing whats next for the band as well as the fundamentals, lead singer Erik Ross gave us a peak into the world of Oh The Humanity. Check it out!

Hello, thank you for speaking with me! Could you tell me your name and what your main position is in Oh The Humanity? Props to you for creating such awesome music all by yourself.

I’m Erik Ross and I’m the lead singer.

What are some pros and cons of being a one man band (for now) ?

One pro is I really get to feel out the writing process and really focus on getting the sound I want this band to have without anybody trying to immediately change the sound and not even give it a chance. The con is I have to find rockers who also love EDM.

Many people have different back stories about how they got into music and what personally influenced them, what's your story?

Well, it all started with a Video Game called Rock Band, I originally played the game Guitar Hero but Rock Band stepped it up and added a Drum Kit and Microphone. So, I got the game and started playing the drums and that inspired me to start playing real drums immediately. But it gets even better, I discovered two bands from that game that I had never heard of before. All That Remains and Lacuna Coil.  I immediately fell in love with metal and metalcore. And guess who did a tour together a year after I discovered them? Must I say their names again? haha!

Is there any bands or artists that you take musical influence from?

My metal/metalcore influences top five are A Day To Remember, I See Stars, Lacuna Coil, Sleeping With Sirens and Of Mice & Men. My EDM influences are Skrillex, Armin Van Buuren, Seven Lions, Breathe Carolina and ZEDD.

How would you describe your music style? Is there anything you think makes you stick out compared to others?

Best way I could describe the music style is just fun and energetic. Something you could jump, mosh and dance too. And I have songs in the works that have big Trance drops blended in chorus’s that are sounding really cool so I'll be excited to release those this year. It’ll definitely be different from current day metalcore releases.

After listening to your music, I've heard a strong mix between electronic and hardcore. As a musicians how do you find that balance with each song?

By just trying to be creative and breaking the rules of genre writing styles.

As fans and people completely new to your music listen, is there anything you want fans to take away from it?

Just to make listeners feel great and positive!

As previously stated, the band currently consists of just you. Will you be adding members?

Yes, I will be adding members.

If you are, what are you looking for in terms of potential band members?

I have to find people who are flexible to EDM.

Is there anything coming up for Oh The Humanity?

More music coming soon and big announcements, which will include band members.

Any last words?

This was Oh The Humanity from Tampa, Florida, have a wonderful Spring!
