HitRECord Season 1 Hits Netflix

Joseph Gordon-Levitt announced on his personal Facebook page that Season 1 of hitRECord is now available for viewing on Netflix.  Seasons 1 and 2 originally aired on Pivot TV.

Gordon-Levitt first began the open collaborative production company, hitRECord, in 2005 as a platform for aspiring artists, musicians, writers, and other creatives to contribute to projects remotely.  The site is directed and developed by Gordon-Levitt under his persona, Regular Joe.  The premise of the site is that anyone can contribute their creative skills.

Before airing on Pivot TV and becoming available on Netflix, finished projects had limited opportunities for release.  Most projects screened at festivals, like the Sundance Film Festival, or were only accessible on YouTube.  The addition of Netflix as a distribution outlet has increased the number of potential viewers exponentially.

Contributors upload and remix (or RECord) various elements like text, images, video, and audio until a finished product is mastered.  Works are created online by collaborators around the world.   Contributors are then compensated for any work that earns income through a profit sharing system.  To date, contributors have earned over $1.2 million.  The opportunity to collaborate is extended to anyone who wishes to contribute a creative skill, registers with the site, and agrees to the terms and conditions.  Anyone new to the concept can now binge watch Season 1 of hitRECord courtesy of Netflix.
