I’m Seth Trimble, guitar player for Shallow Side, and as we all know, being a touring musician takes a lot of hard work and dedication. But, that alone won’t necessarily cut it if you don’t have the proper tools for the job. Whatever your job is within the band, whether it be drums, vocals, bass, guitar, etc…, you need to make sure you have good equipment and make sure you keep it maintained to the best of your ability. I’m going to dive into my own gear here (not literally of course, that’d just be a bad time) and let you all know about the tools I use and how they help me do my job within Shallow Side.

Since I’m the guitar player, I’m going to start out with the obvious: my guitars. I play all PRS because they are the best, in my opinion. My PRS S2 Custom 24 plays like no other and with X-Series EMG pickups installed, it is a force to be reckoned with. Next up is my PRS Zach Myers SE. It is the perfect combination of form and function with its silver sparkleburst finish, singlecut body, and aftermarket EMG pickups. It’s a guitar I typically don’t want to put down once I’ve got it in my hands. Then there’s my PRS Mike Mushok SE. This is just an awesome guitar all around. It’s got basically everything I like about a guitar. It features EMG pickups, a silverburst finish which works out wonderfully with the double cutaway body, a slightly wider than normal neck, and the bat inlays are just the icing on the cake for this great guitar.

The next part of the equation that I am going to dive into here is my amps and cabs. I honestly can’t say enough good things about FUCHS amplifiers. The tone they produce is top notch. I use two FUCHS Mantis 100 heads in a stereo setup running to a Mesa 4x12 cab on stage left and a Peavey 4x10 cab on stage right. The tone and power of just one of these heads is undeniable. The two of them working together creates a proverbial tidal wave of sound that just can’t be beaten.

The last (but definitely not least) section of my gear that you need to know about is my pedalboard. The actual base of my board is a Pedaltrain Pro and I have a Voodoo Lab Power supply attached to the bottom that gives life to the whole operation. At the very beginning of the chain on my pedalboard is the receiver for my Line 6 G50 wireless system. I prefer having it right there because it just makes everything neater all around. That runs to my Boss DD-20 Dual Pedal Giga Delay which is one of the best delay pedals I’ve ever used because of its ability to save presets, use tap tempo, has a very wide array of delay types, and even has a loop function. Next in the chain is my Dunlop Crybaby Wah, which is obviously great for any situation that you need Wah for. Then that leads to my TC Electronics Corona chorus pedal, which is always great to add a little flavor to your riffs. Next we have one of the most important elements to any pedalboard. The Boss TU-3 tuner pedal, which is a great tuner pedal because of its pinpoint accuracy and allows you to fix your tuning on the fly. The next pedal in my chain is the Livewire ABY box. This allows me to use both of my FUCHS heads together and swap back and forth between them as needed. That runs into two separate ISP Decimator 2 noise suppression pedals. These are some of the best noise suppression pedals on the market because they do their job fantastically with a minimal sacrifice to your guitar tone.

In closing, these are the tools I use to do my job on stage. Obviously different jobs require different tools. But, these are the ones that allow me to do my job to its fullest. Thanks for reading and happy hunting for the gear that works best for you and the tone that you’re looking for!
