Guest Blog: 10 Things You Might Not Know About Molly Moore & Escapism

Credit: Abi Polinsky

Molly Moore’s Escapism, out now, encompasses the moment of hope and acceptance in an untraditional love where feelings are dynamic – temporary, lingering, abiding. Today, we have a guest blog from Molly about the EP. Read it below!

  1. “Escapism” is the tendency to seek distraction from unpleasant realities by engaging in fantasy, but it doesn’t matter how long you try to escape reality because, eventually, you realize wherever you go… there you are.

  2. I wrote Escapism while I was getting ready to release my first album Voice on the Internet. I was actually releasing singles from my first album as I was beginning to develop this body of work.

  3. Escapism was written so that I could tell somebody I was in love with them. I basically sent them each song one by one, as I finished them, to see what they’d say.

  4. It turned out they didn’t feel the same way. It’s most definitely for the best.

  5. The visualizers for each song were made up of behind-the-scenes footage from the artwork photo shoots. I was working with a limited budget, so this was the best way for me to keep consistency with the visuals while still doing something exciting and unique.

  6. I made two out of the four songs on this EP with my friend Mike Gonek. We met and began writing together in 2020, which was a huge catalyst for this project taking shape the way it has.

  7. I’ve been lucky enough to collaborate with some of my best friends on these songs. Larzz Principato and Allie Crystal wrote “Do They?” with me, and I’ve known Larzz for over 10 years! We also wrote my song “Careful” together off my first album.

  8. I moved to LA when I was 19 and had $200 in my bank account. I waited tables until I was 21 and told the restaurant I worked for that I was “getting signed to a publishing deal,” even though I definitely wasn’t. I didn’t sign my first publishing deal until I was 23.

  9. I love adding horns to my songs and was blessed to have my friend Ariel Shrum play on three out of four songs on this EP. Ariel also plays in my live band!

  10. I love exploring different sounds with my voice. I grew up listening to everything from Simon & Garfunkel to Fall Out Boy to Britney Spears. I’ve lived in LA for 10 years, but I’m originally from New York and I really enjoy infusing that east coast feeling into my music.
