Exclusive Stream: Galaxy Cloak Self Titled LP + Track By Track

Galaxy Cloak, the hip hop duo (Menes The Pharoah and Sorcery Orchestra) just signed to Esque Records, and have put out a new album which can be exclusively streamed below along with a track by track breakdown of the album from the duo. The album is full of bangers and is sure to be a hidden gem on a few end of the year lists!

1. Tha North Wind - [Menes] this track is a defining moment for me.. From the almost comical sample work to the dead serious content…  I  am tha north wind in every sense of the word. I am very pleased with my new cloak… and im live like the north wind blowing through your city yo! Hypeness at a all time high.

[Menes] -  I’ll tell you that most of the vocal samples on this album come from a few small record labels that shall remain unnamed, but are gold mines for the ill never been done materials. These records are filled with that old fashion, sorta quirky type of whimsical language, with the super duper ill orchestra playing beside the stories. The north wind is one of those tracks that had me dancing strange, like waddling up a mountain with an 800 gorilla strapped to my back, while hyenas  are jumping at me and biting my ankles. Pretty hype.

2. Wizardry - [Sorcery] the maniacal laugh of a traveling gypsy hustler opens this track followed by mr serling explaining where to find Sorcery, in the human heart. The track continues trudging along with grooving and muffled bass lines with decomposing piano stabs which all allows Menes voice to be powerful as ever. Speaking what im livin, freakin any rythm.

[Menes] -  piano drop from rooftops, an orchestra of sounds! Send windz of typhoons, never hold me down…  this track defines emceeing in my not so humble opinion, pure Sorcery and lyrical prowess. Relentless pace as  I  pick remains from my teeth, spitting out the bones… this production reminded me of the most sadistic  scenerio  I ’ve ever expierenced in my life… crawling out of my own grave dirt.

 3. Shadow Walk - [Menes] - the basement dwellaz show up as a troop for this slimey  slumpy potluck. Lullabies never lulled me to sleep… everything you see is a mirage. My brothas archangel and masonik monk came through for me heavy on this track, this is arguably one of my favorite tracks.  It’s just boombappin and face slamming. Bring any crew and they get flambéed. Offensive, abrasive, obnoxious and perfect. Fuji with the uzi in the movies so you hush.

[Sorcery] - bang funk to the boogie! Its weird how that track got its name. The vocal sample which apears to say  I  make the sails, was from a french operetta of sorts that got chopped up and started speaking english. Some of these sounds that end up coming out the drum machines could never be recreated, even if  I  know exactly where it came from. Thats one of the things that keeps me interested in making music.Even with a permanent and defined audio source, the product comes out different.

4. The Crawling Chaos - [Sorcery] a personal favorite. The clear and unchallengeable fact that everything begins with an idea. And so it does. A funky and off kilter bass loop spearheads this madness, with a heavy break beat backing it up. What’s that smell tho? Metal for the shell toes. Listen close after Menes finds his peace, as he summons a demon in the language of lovecraft. The track ends with one of my favorite samples of the album. Whats happening?!

[Menes] – mad scientist a little long at the tooth. Again, just pure emceeing wizardry on this track.. The message and the motive. The more  I  listen to this album while writing this, the more  I  realize its truly offensive. Great stuff. Truly a hallmark track for me in general, its very primordial and lovecraftian which is the theme that overlays this whole album for me.  Its not club music, its not dance music, its expand you mental capacity until your bleeding knowledge out of your eyes music.

5. Whoz There - [Menes] – so far the “title” track for the album as it was the first song heard worldwide, and first video produced.. This song is the oddball, so it was risky to use it as a single, but  I  think the gamble paid off, it was so weird and abstract, that it gained notoriety all on its own… someone asked me whats this song about, or whats the message.  I said its nearly the same as all my music.. Universal law and the chaos theory.  Purely based around imagery and concepts that are so illogical they make sense when painted in a picture or written in a book.  I am a writer first, so read my lyrics like the synopsis of a novel. One of my favorite parts is the light mention of “the harlot” who appears in lots of my rhymes and books  I  am writing, she is a character  I  didn’t fully manifest, but have become one with… she eats the souls of man, and makes them tell her their darkest secrets, and stores them in cardboard boxes across a huge valley of vastness. She is gnarled and disgusting. She is all.

6. 6cent suppressor - [Sorcery] this one is probably one of the strangest beats of the bunch. This song makes me want to smoke a whole blunt to the face and creep around scaring folks with my awkward demeanor. This is what is playing in a witches house in the middle of the suicide forest on the regs. 10 pointer sunk in the matrix!

[Menes] – the “bridge” is my favorite part of this song, and one of my favorite parts of the album… “  I  can feel every nerve tingling,  I  can feel my fingernails growing,  I  can feel my long hair dying, begging to be cut, but no! You must… grow to be as long as samsons, and strong as a thousand of him” …  I  personally get chills listening to this piece, every time. So  I  wonder how the listener will take it? The intro defines how I feel about everything in life… very uncomfortable song.

7. No More Galaxies - [Menes] -  a collaboration with fellow torontonian emcee grandfather mantis… the resonance of our voices collaborating is  near cataclysmic. The funky beat mixed with the subtle undertones of horror. Old man river. I love this song, since the first time  I  heard it, it has always been one of my favorites.  The pharaoh and the shadows. A lyrical bombardment of all sorts, there is not much to say about this song other then its ill as fuck.

8. Tha Dirty - they were all dirty, they were all very very dirty. This track is the dirty filthy grimey sludge funk. Warping and twisting guitar riffs keep the groove going on this one which create a very original landscape for Menes powerful flow. Galaxy cloak broken satellites flow automatically dope systematically broke while you tragically hope for my falicy quote but cant find none of mine in this galaxy yo!

[Menes] – probably the most hardcore track on the album, other then the chorus of “nobody”, this is for them grunge heads… really dirty music.. From an emcee perspective nearly every line is thunderous. Another very abrasive track.  I live in the roots of golden era hip-hop but theres really no choice,  I  had to wreck this.

9. Strange Phlightz - [Menes] – peace to my brotha zen studentz / 7rinth my collaborator in the group called monsters of the pond. Very rhythmic and melodic once the beat gets going. These rascals love to rhyme and bomb buildings, prophetic in their own ways.. At long last.. Strange phlightz!  I feel like this song will be a fan favorite.

10. Cloaked Creep - get that creep in the cloak! This is a nanny nanny boo boo stick ya head in doo doo type track. This beat kick you in ya guts too. Menes laughing at you in a trance, urging you to think twice before stepping to the galaxy cloak. Don’t be a showoff whatever you do, you’ll only look foolish and hurt yourself too. Ha ha ha!

[Menes] – ha ha haaa… my cloak creepz across a dusty floor, skeleton and whores… moon chains and more!! The executioner again, plays her clarinet, a tune that  I  could only momentarily forget. Next question.

11. Nobody - [Menes] – right from that first piano roll, you know this song is going to be something… unforgiving? This beat sounds like its doing gymnastics while smoking meth. A track about… me… in a world all about you, this is about me. 3 pieces of production in one. Maybe more. Its brutal, fiendish. My life, is language. Laughing, throughout most of my life! An open casket… no closing time tonight.  This is one of my favorite pieces of composition on the album.  It all comes together in a limb-filled mess. Blood everywhere!

[Sorcery] this beat is actually like 5 or 6 beats that all mashed up really well together. Sometimes  I  get the perfect random sequence of records in a row, that compliment each other beautifully, and it happened on this track. I found myself at the same dudes front yard record sales about every other weekend, and this guy was selling amazing records for $1 each and cheaper when  I  bought a crate full. I’m still digging treasures from that excavation.

12. Itz Good - dripping in a luscious bass line, violin violence, and singing synthesizers, this track oozes the most beautiful venom. A personal expose into relationships and the ups and downs of them.

[Menes]  - this track is special to me… well  I  guess its special to everyone who ever has found themselves entranced in the witches grips. Its crazy, its happy, its sad, its depressing, its reluctant, its beautiful and its terrible.  One of my favorite pieces of production on this album… g-funk anybody? That synthesizer anybody? Holy funk. Cant pack a .45 anymore cause  I ’d shoot ya. Welcome to a glimpse of my day to day life, shoutout to all the people who have brought me down, here  I  am, and im waiting for you to show your faces again!  I got no problem stating the things  I  do here.. And  I  have no apologies. I love you all. I could stare at you forever; fuck countless hours.

13. Grave Makahz - [Menes] – holy smokes! Menes/morlore, stranded.Sea/swordz, and white lotus all on one track? That’s right, and it might be the best song on the album. He heard some voices over behind the hedge?! Sea/swordz verse on this is one of the hardest in hiphop in a long time… ridiculously menacing.  And white lotus with his razor sharp and patent style comes through equally virulent… big ups to my brothers, thanks for sharing this one with me.

14. Krooked Schemez - [Sorcery] itz Sorcery carving glyphs in your chest. This one is about living proper but also scheming to get what you want. Pumping up that funky bass once again, this song keeps high energy throughout. We all got them krooked schemez, be gone from our stars!

[Menes] – one of the first songs  I  fell in love with on the album, this is how  I  wanted the whole thing to sound, and  I  think we succeeded. Truly uncompromising music. So what if your ears are bleeding? So what if your questioning life after listening… so what?! The second verse on this is one of the highlight verses on the album for me…  I  rob a grave,  I  might split a wig,  I ’d harm the innocent just to half feed my kids. Hungry emceeing. The hungriest.

15. Death Witch - [Menes] – the shaman, yes my witch doctor! … after hearing the intro sample,  I  told Sorcery  I  need to rhyme on that part of the production… and thus was born one of my favorite pieces of music ive ever composed. I get chills every time  I  hear it. The first part is mean, gritty, revealing. Its based upon drinking ayahuasca.. Yes  I ’ve done plenty of drugs in my life. Its actually a big part of my whole rhyme scheme. Is opening the third eye,  I  do not condone doing illicits, but everyone should experience mind opening events.  And then the second part… anyone doubting that my background is pure unbiased hip-hop is cement floored with the last half of the last track.  Its just true emceeing. I cant say much about this other then its one of my favorite parts of the album, and its defining to who  I  am.  Its real, its all real, and its all galaxy cloak.

Much love and respekt!
