EP Review: Joshua Travis - "No Rest”

Joshua Travis (Emmure, ex-The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, etc.) will finally release his debut solo EP, "No Rest," on March 18 and it is a must have for any metalhead. The effort takes the blistering nature and impeccable musicianship from the guitarist extraordinaire's past work and amplifies it through a slate of talented guests.

The EP kicks off with the pummeling track “Web Of Lies.” The song knocks you for a loop with thunderous vocals from Andy Cizek (Monuments) and a firey solo from Stephen Taranto (The Helix Nebula). The single is a solid introduction to the EP and helps prepare you for what lies ahead.

Fortunately, this trend continues as “Leviathan” breaks in with another dose of mosh-worthy material. The chaotic track hits you like a battering ram and keeps you on the hook with dynamic vocals courtesy of Ryo Kinoshita (Crystal Lake) and Chad Kapper (Frontierer).

From there, “Disdain” blasts through the speakers to up the ante even further. The incredibly infectious track creates a live atmosphere completed by a full on assault from Polaris' Jamie Hails and Jake Steinhauser.

That live vibe even extends to "Parallel," a high energy track that would totally decimate concert stages around the world. The aggressive song, which includes an assist from Jake Wolf (Reflections) and Daniella Bolin, definitely has the potential to become a fan-favorite in the near future.

After "Parallel," the EP comes to a close with "All Out War." The face-melting track wraps everything up by completely crushing your skull with fierce vocals from Ryan Kirby (Fit For A King). It serves as a perfect end to a killer EP.

All in all, "No Rest" is everything one would expect from Travis, heavy, high quality music that is sure to have fans clamoring for more. Make sure to check it when it's officially released on Friday (March 18).
