Most of my teenage years have been spent at concerts or other music-related events. At every event there is always one of two local bands on the bill. These bands work really hard to get a pull on the crowd through free stickers, promoting events and taking pictures with fans yet they never usually make it big. And why is that? Fans aren't there to support the bands.

So, let's say as an example that you go to see A Day To Remember. Of course A Day To Remember is what pulls all of the fans, but when you look at the openers, there will usually be at least one opening band. While (theoretically) the doors open at 6 and the show "starts" at 6:30, it'll always be the opening band on first. By then only about 1/4 of the crowd is there (unless the headliner is really big like Deftones). The opening band comes on and tries to hype up the crowd for the headliner and literally no one is supportive. Why is this?

People only seem to care about national acts. They care what's popular and not what their own hometown has to offer. Now I know Pittsburgh (where I'm from) doesn't have many rock acts other than Anti-Flag, but there are literally 200 different bands in Pittsburgh. You can find them playing small venues and if they have a following, opening for a bigger headliner. It's weird to see a hometown not show full support to a band that is from there. And with this I'd like to say, why not? Below I've have a couple of links to different Pittsburgh bands I like. I fully encourage you to get out and see what good bands are hiding in your hometown. You may even find one who will tour the world one day.
