Disney Announces Live Action 'Mulan'
Let's get down to business... Disney just announced yesterday they are working on a live action version of Mulan!
The 1998 animated film centered around the legend of Hua Mulan (Fa Mulan in the film), a female warrior from ancient China. To save her father, Mulan guised herself as a young man, taking her father's place in the Imperial army. She was a failure at first, but then was able to rise above her fellow soldiers to save China.
Mulan was a great box office success, grossing $304 million worldwide. It was the seventh highest grossing film that year. The film also garnered Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations.
This news comes on the heels of Disney announcing the Beauty & The Beast live-action retelling, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens. Broadway star Audra McDonald is the newest addition to the cast, taking on the role of Garderobe (the Wardrobe). Disney is also set to release The Jungle Book and the sequel to Alice In Wonderland next year (The Hollywood Reporter).
