Dead Cassette Releases Debut Album 'Revive'

Rising metalcore act Dead Cassette just released their debut album "Revive", along with a music video for the final track "Forever Kind of Love". Dead Cassette is an up-and-coming metalcore band from Ohio who has been catching the eye of metalheads all over the world. The band is fairly new, but being streamed in over 100 countries and will be making their first festival appearance on August 27th at Summit Fest. The group has been touring Ohio since the fall of 2021, then gained enough traction to start touring out of state in March of this year.

Dead Cassette features lead vocalist Justin Karallus, lead guitarist Arthur Lawrence, rhythm guitarist & vocalist Corbin Wandling, bassist Joe Hoover, and drummer Kollin Manuel. The band has a modern-yet-nostalgic feel to them that brings both originality and comfortability that fans love. Karallus leads the way with an absurd unclean vocal range. Lawrence is starting to show sneak peaks of his reputation of being a jaw dropping guitarist.

Wandling is not only a talented guitarist as well, but a smooth clean singer too! Hoover's bass slapping is airtight. As for Manuel, he's showing glimpses that he might possibly be the next great drummer to come out of Ohio. If you are an old-school metalcore fan, this band is worth keeping an eye on.

The album opens with the ring of some church bells, then shows an almost nu-metal side of them with the track "Auburn St". The album then speeds up right away with the single "Neverending" and then offers a more groovy pop punk-ish track in "Sick/Tired". We then slide back into another single with "Through Hell" and then start getting heavy with two all unclean tracks "Stitches, Scars and Broken Hearts" & "Become The Wolf". The latter shows a deathcore side of the band we have yet to see. Track 7, "Sol Extinction", returns to their patented metalcore sound and then the album slows down with "Wychwoods".

The album then presents its infamous lead single & title track "Revive". At track 10, we get a more hard rock meets beatdown sound with "Nothing Left". The record then closes with the emotional ballad "Forever Kind Of Love", which they released a tear jerking and break-up story driven music video for.

Lyrically, we've seen multiple different themes from Dead Cassette. Their first single "Revive" was about bouncing back from adversity, Their sophomore single "Through Hell" was about betrayal. Then their third and final single "Neverending" covered topics such as anxiety, global warming, war, discrimination, and existential dread. According to Karallus' social media, the album "got to tell the story of this chapter of our lives. We wrote it about getting up, bouncing back from the low points, and overcoming the obstacles keeping you down".

Dead Cassette's debut album "Revive" is worth checking out if you are a fan of metalcore. This band has shown tons of growth and promise over the last year. If they continue to grow, you might be seeing their names in the mainstream metal scene.
