Album Review: Dozer TX - Centerpiece EP

Dozer TX is an aggressive pop-punk four piece that work with dual vocalist. Centerpiece is their sophomore EP set to debut tomorrow, March 10th. Centerpiece is compromised of six heavy hitting and catchy songs dealing with toxic relationships and mental illness.

"Smoke Screen" sets the tone for the remainder of the EP, starting it off with a powerful, high energy song. The kind of stuff you shamelessly angry finger point to in the car. The song features catchy upbeat and bouncy guitar riffs, keeping the pop-punk feel alive and well throughout the song while maintaining an angst lyrically and vocally. Dozer TX perfectly utilizes their dual vocalists, alternating between vocalists during the chorus and bringing a symbiosis between their vocal types.  "Fixated" is a single that was released off of Centerpiece that has a very similar feel to its predecessor on the EP.  Lyrically, "Fixated" is a bit heavier, "I'm a crowded room you don’t want to pass through but you have to. I'm an itch you can't reach, a plague that never leaves." Tempo changes and emotional delivery are what make this song shine. The EP's title track "Centerpiece" changes the game up for the EP slightly, with a less clean and polished vibe than the prior two songs the song shows more grunge. Vocals are much more aggressive in this song, utilizing harsher, grittier yells. "Leech" and "Breathe Deep" come after and they combine a blend of the grunge and intensity of "Centerpiece" with the upbeat feel of the first two tracks. "Breathe Deep" includes vocal harmonies that are reminiscent of Four Year Strong (think Rise or Die Trying). "Keep You To Myself" is a cute acoustic number that finished the EP on a different note. The other songs were the more tumultuous, less than ideal part of the relationships we encounter, but "Keep You To Myself" is all about finally meeting someone rad and wanting them to stick around. This fits with the instrumentation of the songs and the other five songs on the EP are upbeat and aggressive with their instrumentation, but the last song is acoustic and much more pure in nature.

Overall, Centerpiece and Dozer TX in general are going to be a band you keep your eyes peeled for. Centerpiece is catchy, there was not a single song that I didn't tap my feet and bang my head to. The EP provides a perfect blend of cookie-cutter pop-punk tones and a much more intense and angsty sound to create something that fans of many different genres can enjoy. Check out their single for "Fixated" below and be sure to grab Centerpiece out tomorrow!
